IT Park and Technology Campus Security: Access Control Beyond the Reception Desk

IT parks need more than a lobby guard
Technology campuses often contain multiple tenants, shared parking, food courts, service vendors, contractors and 24-hour operations. A single reception checkpoint cannot manage every risk. Security should be designed as layers across the campus boundary, building entrances, service access, parking and restricted tenant areas.
The physical-security program should complement, not replace, cybersecurity. Guards and supervisors protect people, premises and physical access while IT teams manage digital systems and information-security controls.
Identity, visitors and after-hours access
Employee badges, visitor registration, contractor approvals and delivery procedures should be consistent across shifts. Tailgating, lost cards and propped doors require clear reporting and follow-up. After-hours access should be more restrictive because occupancy is lower and unusual activity is harder to distinguish.
Parking patrols, CCTV observation, fire-alarm coordination and incident reporting help create a complete picture for facility management.
